Day 21 of 100

“I believe that we’ve been in the dark for so long, and no one questions it…”

Why I like it

People who get used to the dark in a resigned acceptance do not question it, giving way to oppressors who exercise the power even more cruelly. The quote mentions how no one even thinks of questioning why things are running the way they are, and I like this so much because this is relevant across borders and beyond timelines, be it modern politics or ancient history.

Why it finds a place in my top 100:

One of the primary reasons why we do not fight against the people who dictate and oppress us is because we gradually accept the darkness surrounding us. In all the dark periods in world history, most of the times the people have gotten used to the dark times and do not rebel against it, having accepted it as a part of their existence and accepting it as something they are fated with. Until someone who questions it comes along and revolution happens to bring light into the dark times.

I read this book as a part of a review program and really liked the illustrations and the story line. I was also impressed by the illustrations and read it in a sitting. Of the many quotes I liked, this one topped the list from this book.
