The Book(s) and Memories:
Before I go to Sleep is a psychological thriller written by SJ Watson. It is the first novel written by SJ Watson and has been translated into more than 40 languages. It has also hit the charts of bestsellers in NYT and Sunday Times and is internationally acclaimed.
I had been meaning to read this book since I got the paperback months ago. But I got to read it only for this challenge. And I am glad I did. The book fit the requirements of this genre perfectly and was a completely engrossing read. It dealt with a tricky subject, a rare form of amnesia where the protagonist Christine loses her memory every time she wakes up from sleep. The only person she should trust may not be being completely true to her.
As far as the summary and the title went, they were apt and eye catching. It is not without reason that this book has been read by many and appreciated by most of them. The story was engaging, definitely on the plus side because of the language and I had a great time reading the book in three instalments only, despite having other books to read from my to-be-read pile.
The story worked because of the interesting plot line, with the imaginative disease, and lucid language that helped move the plot along. What worked for me was also that the twists and turns were evenly placed and I could feel the horrors that the main character felt. This is definitely a book I will read again.
